Match Report
St Andrew's College Boys-U16A vs  Selborne College
On: Friday, 24 May 2019
Venue: Away

We were slow in getting out the starting blocks and it took most of the first half for College to get into the game. Selborne took advantage of our sluggish start and lack of structure making a number of circle entries getting off a few excellent shots at goal. Jarvis was in fine form in the goals and made some excellent saves to keep us in the game. Holmes and Kayla defended well in the midfield with some tight man on man marking. It was in the second half that we started to play to our potential with our forwards making particularly good use of the opportunities we had. Boden in particular used his pace to get in behind the defence. Good interplay between our forwards was finished with a tap in from Lane who once again got himself into a good position on the far post. This was followed up with a good short corner between Bowker, Marx, Stewart and Pope - with Pope finishing clinically. With 5 minutes to go and 2 goals up we should have closed the game out. Selborne finished what was an excellent movement down the right hand side with classic baseline run and a finish from the p spot. With a couple of minutes to go and one goal ahead we should have kept calm and kept possession. We were unable to do so and when we should simply have retreated 5 yards from a hit in the 23 we made the tackle. This resulted in a short corner with seconds remaining. Selborne scored as the final whistle blew and the result was a 2-2 draw.
