1st XI Cricket KZN tour
Yesterday, last day of the tour saw the 1st XI take on St Charles College in the morning and a Hilton College’s Stayer’s XI in the afternoon on their respective picturesque 1st XI ovals.
College were a little untidy in their morning T20 session in the field, and then almost did enough to rectify their day with the bat, but St Charles, an organised outfit won by 20 runs defending their competitive 176 1st innings total.
Ntandoyenkosi Zuma was belligerent for St Charles, his 51 not out coming off 39 balls and Samuel Brown’s 58 came off just 40 balls.
Stuart Carr was the pick of the College bowlers, his 4 overs costing a mere 15 runs.
Jake Coventry led the chase with a sparkling 67 off 56 balls.
Newman Nyamhuri’s bowling for St Charles was brisk and in the correct areas in his match winning 4/21.
In the afternoon the team rounded off their learning experience with a solid performance versus the Hilton Stayer’s XI.
College won the 30 overs match by 5 wickets chasing Hilton’s testing 1st innings total of 153/8, led by Charles Swart’s 67 off 68 balls.
William Beamish picked up 3 wickets for 24 runs in his neat spell of wicket to wicket pace bowling.
Mitchell Coventry batted maturely for 46, and Captain, Matt Poole steadied the ship with his valuable 17 off just 12 balls.
Thanks to all the KZN schools, staff, parents and young cricketers for a meaningful tour in which the College cricketers gained valuable experience, built relationships and were afforded the opportunity of a brief snippet of what it feels like to become a journeyman cricketer.
