1st XI vs Maritzburg College

St Andrew’s College won the toss and elected to bat first in their 40 overs match vs Maritzburg College at Eston Cricket Club.

St Andrew’s were well positioned on 80/1 after 14 overs, but the Maritzburg bowlers bowled well, attacking the stumps and with flurry of wickets, St Andrew’s found themselves on 102/5 in the 20th over and needing to dig deep. Matthew Poole (45) and William Beamish (65) then scored freely on the quick outfield steering their team to a competitive 227 first innings total.

The match was well poised with Maritzburg on 74/3 after 20 overs and their number 3 Caleb Thomas was well set at the crease. Caleb Thomas and Oliver Da Costa then began to take the game away from St Andrew’s in the middle overs, manipulating the field and placing pressure on the St Andrew’s fielders.

Caleb Thomas batted superbly for his 106 off 108 balls, but William Beamish & Joe Wostenholm each picked up
3 wickets and St Andrew’s managed to pull off a win by 5 runs.
